Buying Guides

J.A. Henckels Forged Premio 8″ Chef Knife

This results in an incredibly wide range of both German and Japanese influenced knives, using authentic German and Japanese materials but are available at an extremely low price. The blade has a full bolster and full tang, and the triple riveted handle is full-tang. Made from G10, a fiberglass laminate, the handle has a tactile feel. The handle has the perfect combination of being extremely lightweight and extremely tough at the same time. As far as standard kitchen pressures are concerned, it will be able to withstand them all.

Cangshan V2 8-inch Chef Knife

Their Cangshan series is no different, the quality is there but you’re able to get their fantastic 8-inch chef’s knife from this range for under $50, an absolute bargain in my opinion. The blade is made from X50CrMoV15 a German steel specifically designed for durability. As a result, the blade of this knife is both durable and strong, with a razor-sharp edge. The blade itself has a decent width, personally I’d like something just a touch wider but that is all up to individual preference. The blade is well curved allowing for a good rock chopping motion when using the knife.

Zelite Infinity Comfort Pro 8″ Chef Knife

The full tang of the handle has been specifically designed with ergonomics in mind for you to enjoy an exceptionally comfortable and unique grip that you won't find anywhere else. With a sweeping bolster on the knife, you can tell that it is a quality product, and it is also very easy to choke the blade with your index finger and thumb to keep it under control.

Also, the handle is very comfortable to hold with your entire hand, and it's the most comfortable handle out of all the ones in this list. Although I feel it's a fantastic knife, the only drawback I can see is that the width is a little narrower than I'd like, and the heel is a bit smaller than I'd like. Even so, for a little less than $50 you can get a top-quality product that is worth your money.

Mercer MZ3510 8″ Chef Knife

In my opinion, this knife has been shaped so well that I think the stamped blade is a fair compromise for the great price that it sells for. With its ideally curved and wide blade, you will be able to easily choke the blade with your index finger and thumb as you rock chop herbs and vegetables with ease.It has a good length of heel that leaves plenty of room for your knuckles, and the handle has been perfectly designed so that it stays comfortable for longer periods of time. The blade does not have a bolster, which is typical of stamped steel blades.

I am very impressed with the design of this knife. There is no doubt that it is made out of stamped steel and not forged, but the steel used is of high stainless quality, and the overall design of the knife is ideal for everything a chef's knife needs to do. It is absolutely outstanding value for the price that has been set for J.A. Zwilling International Statement Chef's Knife. It is a terrific choice for the budget-conscious cook who still wants a great knife.

In the four years that I have been cooking, I have always been fascinated by how different people's techniques are, as well as how they take advantage of the ingredients that surround them. Even the person living next door will have their own way of frying an egg or cooking a salmon fillet in their own unique way. My fascination with food has led me to travel across the globe to discover the countless practices and traditions the world of cooking has to offer to us. In order to share my journey with you, I created Smegkettle in the hopes that you would find it valuable and enjoy it.
